Bronner show/ project

Hello my fellow students of cosmstolegy class. Monday we enjoyed our fantastic field trip to the brother bronner show. We saw so many different types of exibits of hair styles and finger styles. We also saw products that are not frequently used throught every day beauty shops and stores. For the people who did not go on the bronner trip, You had to create a salon. Your salon much show a visual of how you would want your salon to be set up if you was to own a shop. The project must be unique, creative, and stands out in your own unique way. For the rest of the week we will be working in our txet book starting on page 439. Chapter 21. Chapter 21 desribes the disorder of the nails and the aspects of nails. fanasty hair and make up

Today all my students did fanasty make up application for the up coming fanasty show. They had a termendous time on experiencing and practicing the uniqueness of make up. All this week we will continue practicing fanasty make up for the fashion show. Friday all the students will create a blue print of the salon. Hello my fellow students of cosmotolegy.This week my advance students reviewed the history of cosmotolegy such as the careers and opportuntites in cosometolegy, The early orgins of lifestyle and barbaring, The pioneers of modern cosmetology and thier role in its development, The meaning of the latin word " Barbara", History on Madam Cj. Walker, History about cosmetology, and state/ local law based upon cosmetology.

For my freashmen class we have completed roller set, now we are on hairstyling chapter twelve pg 349. In practical workbook its page 48 with questions and answers 1-50. After we complete roller set we will be on finger wave and pin curls. Finger waves and pin curls will start monday. Also we will be practicing for the fashion show next week.

For my advance class we going to start bleaching and lightening. You will learn and demonstrate the components of highlights and the teqniques of hairlightners.

Fashion show Thriller

Hello my students!!!! These are trmendous examples of hairstyles and make up that stands out to the audience and also makes your individual model look very different than others. You are not expected to have your model look just like these individuals but you are expected to have your model look close to these specific models. Notice that the examples i posted on the blog, The models look exotic and different in their own way. This will allow you to make 1st place and become the winner of the fashion show of 2010!!!!!! 4th block thursday we wiil be bringing all the models and stylists for ten to fifteen minutes to analyze the model and their stylist for the fashion show. Facial for the staff/ spiral setting

Hello my cosmetology students!!!!!!!!! Today my advance class practice facial for the upcoming assignment dealing with the staff at pebblebrook highschool. Starting monday my 1st block ( advance class) will start on giving the pebblebrook staff a facial. They would be graded indiviually on the facial that they give. For my freasmen class we are doing spirls setting. Starting monday my freashmen students will come up with new design for the fasion show that would be held on march 26, 2010. Roller setting and facials

Good afternoon my fellow students. Today the advance students open up demonstrations of facials. They demonstrated the parts of a facial analyzing the nerve points of a facial. For my 1st level class , the students practice roller settng and drapeing a minikin. The students did a tremendous job as they presented their artifitial hair work to the class. Monday the class would be assigned a project due at the end of the class period. The students would create a hair book that would enlightened their idea of different styles for the fashion show. This particular assignment would be graded as a project. Color, pictures, neatness, unique, would be your rubric on how i would grade the project as a whole. I would return to school wedsnday and hopefully the project would be ready for me to check and grade . Hello my students of cosmetology. I am very excited about the upcoming fashion show!!!!!!

Today was the comittee meeting about the hair fashion show. My students enlightened me with variety of different ideas about the fashion show. The fashion show would start at 7:30 and ends at 9:30. Pre sale tickets are six dollars in advance and eight dollars at the door. We will be hosting try-outs for entertainment such as singing, dancing, rapping, skits etc.... The try-outs would be held on february 5th 2010. At this moment we have 36 models, i am ACCEPTING the MAXIMUM of 42 models. therefore there are 5 spots availible. Again remember the theme of the fasion show is thriller. Practicing examples for hair show

Hello my fellow students!!! Today we practice hair styles for cosmetology BIG fashion show that is coming up in april. The students did a tremendous job in designing NEW and DIFFERENT hair styles!!!! My advance students will be creating facials and hairstyles for the fashion show starting next tuesday. My on level students will also create facials and unique hair styles that would be graded and examined. To give you a head start over the weekend look at hairstyles that would bring interest into your audience. Such as fanasty hair styles, big and exotic hairstyles, also hair styles that have color and has alot of creativity that you wouldn't see in everyday society. REMEMBER the theme of the fanasty show is THRILLER so make sure your model relate to the theme. Educational Requirements for Cosmetologists:
In order to work as a hairstylist or cosmetologist, one must be licensed by the state in which he or she wants to work. In order to become licensed one must have graduated from a state-licensed barber or cosmetology school and be at least 16 years old. Some states require graduation from high school while others require as little as an eighth grade education.
Other Requirements for Cosmetologists:
Some states allow completion of an apprenticeship as a substitute for graduation from a school.
Those who apply for a license usually are required to pass a written test and demonstrate an ability to perform basic barbering or cosmetology services.
Advancement of Cosmetologists:
As hairstylists and cosmetologists become more experienced and gain a following, they can expect their earnings to increase. Some manage salons or decide to open their own. Others become sales representatives or image consultants. Some decide to teach in barber and cosmetology schools.

A Day in a Cosmetologist's Life:
On a typical day a cosmetologist might perform some of the following duties, depending on his or her specialization:
Cuts, trims and shapes hair or hair pieces
Bleaches, dyes, or tints hair
Combs, brushes, and sprays hair or wigs to set style
Attaches wig or hairpiece to model head and dresses wigs and hairpieces

Types of up-do hair styles

Romantic
A romantic updo is popular for the evening gown portion of the pageant, and is good for those with long, wavy or naturally curly hair. Use a large-barrel curling iron to create long, loose curls. Then use bobby pins to pin up small sections of hair from above your temples and at the crown of your head to create a cascading effect down your back. Set the updo with a mist of loose-hold hairspray to keep it looking its best under the hot lights of the pageant stage.
Edgy
If you are the type of pageant queen who doesn't like to be traditional, consider an edgy updo. This hairstyle works best for girls with short to medium hair. Use a flat iron and straightening creme to get the stick-straight look, flipping out the ends to create texture. Pull the back into a messy bun, allowing the ends to fan out. Secure with a few bobby pins. This style looks especially good with a thin hairband pulled over the front, and leaves plenty of space for that all-important pageant crown. This look works for a more casual pageant, or for the swimsuit portion.
Classic
If you are the consummate classic beauty queen, you probably want a pageant updo that stands the test of time. Try this modern twist on the classic French twist. Begin with clean, straight hair, and use a comb to back comb the crown to create a small bump. Gather your hair into a ponytail. Twist and invert the ponytail, and roll it into itself. Secure this roll to the back of your head with bobby pins. You should have a classic French twist, but with a little flair in the volume at your crown. This looks goes perfectly with all portions of the pageant, but looks particularly sophisticated during the interview portion.

Roller Setting Technique

Roller Setting is considered to be one of the healthiest styling methods for the hair. By using an indirect heat source (a hood dryer), the hair is able to retain more moisture and natural sheen. With this styling method, you will start to see stronger, healthier hair in no time!
This is not the ONLY way to roller set but I find it to be one of the easiest.
Tools:
1) Wide Tooth Comb2) Rattail3) Magnetic rollers4) Duckbill Clip5) Water Bottle 6) Leave-in Conditioner 7) Serum

Instructions:
1) Wash and Condition hair as usual
2) After rinsing out conditioner, leave hair soaking wet and put a plastic shower cap over wet hair.
3) Apply leave-in and serum concentrating on the ends. Fill your water bottle with the mixture of your choice: 1) plain ole water, 2) water and setting lotion, 3) liquid leave-in or 4) water and oil.
Sidenote - I get the silkiest, bounciest and straightest by using just leave-in, serum and water. I get the firmest curls when I use setting lotion (diluted or not) I get the most hydrated set (but less bounce) when I use a moisturizer with my leave-in and serum.

Advance Student color time Factors

The darker the natural hair color ,the more melanin it has.The more melanin it has ,the longer it takes to lighten or diffuse the color to give a lighter appearance to the hair. The amount of time needed to lighten the natural color is also influenced by the porosity. Porous hair of the same color level will lighten faster than hair that is nonporous because the bleaching agent can enter the cortex more rapidly.

The part of a roller curl

Base: The panel of hair the roller is placed on. The base should be the same length and width as the roller. The type of base detemines the volume.

Stem: The hair between the scalp and the first turn of the roller.
The stem gives the hair direction and mobility.

Curl: The hair that is wrapped around the roller. It determines the size of the wave of curl.

Advanced Salon Haircolor and Style

The students did Semipermanent and permanent color styles.
On the Semipermanent haircolor you must shampoo the hair. Next, part the hair into four sections. Next, apply the semi haircolor over the entire head. Then, after you have completed the color,place the client under the dryer for twenty minutes. After twenty minutes, rinse the hair or shampoo the hair. Finally, condition the hair, and style. Clean up and Sanitation practices are also a must upon completion of the style.

Comb out and Style Tips

1. Check coils for any fuzzies or debris before slipping on a sleep cap
2. Keep room temperatures cool so your scalp doesn't sweat at night
3. In the a.m., take a pea-sized amount of Moisture Enhancing Hairdressing, rub it between your palms and palm roll coils to refresh them
4. Spray with a light oil to keep hair moist, such as Marula Natural Therapy Hair and Scalp Oil

Haircoloring

Some of the reasons why we color our hair ,because we want to enhance our haircolor,change our haircolor or cover gray. we must give a hair consultation before a haircolor is given. A patch test determine whether you have any allergies or sensitivities to the color mixture. Another name for the patch test is a predisposition test. A patch test take 24 to 48 hours prior to application of the haircolor . The best place to apply the tint fore the patch test is behind the ear or onide of the elbow.

Spiral rolls and Styling

After the spiral is completed, the students will style the manikin using a curly spiral style.

Hair Coloring Theory (Part 1)

Temporary hair color
Temporary hair color is available as rinses, shampoos, gels, sprays, foams among others. This type of hair color is typically brighter and more vibrant than semi-permanent and permanent hair color. Temporary color is most often used to color hair for special occasions and is often used in unusual shades for events, parties and Halloween.
The pigment molecules in temporary hair color are large and cannot penetrate the cuticle layer. Instead, the color particles remain adsorbed (closely adherent) to the hair shaft and are easily removed with a single shampooing.
However, even temporary hair color can persist if the user's hair is excessively dry or damaged, allowing for migration of the pigments to the interior of the hair shaft.

Semi-permanent hair color
Semi-permanent hair dye has smaller molecules than temporary dyes, and is therefore able to partially penetrate the hair shaft. For this reason, the color will survive repeated washing, typically 4-5 shampoos. Semi-permanents contain no developer, peroxide or ammonia, and are therefore safer for damaged or fragile hair. However, semi-permanents may still contain the toxic compound P-Phenylenediamine or other such ingredients.
The final color of each strand of hair will depend on its original color and porosity, so there will be subtle variations in shade across the whole head. This gives a more natural result than the solid, allover color of a permanent dye. However, it also means that gray or white hairs will not dye to the same shade as the rest of the hair. If there are only a few gray/white hairs, the effect will usually be enough for them to blend in, but as the gray spreads, there will come a point where it cannot be disguised.
In this case, the move to permanent color can sometimes be delayed by using the semi-permanent as a base and adding highlights.
Semi-permanent color cannot lighten the hair.

Spiral Perm Rods Part 2

Today we used the perm rods. Students worked on their manikins to rod half the hair. We will do the other section on monday. I will check the manikin for proper technique and tightness. Students will be graded according to their level of expertise.

Draping and perm Rods

Before draping, the students must sanitize hands.

Perm Rods are placed in the hair using a sprial technique.
Students are encouraged to practice this method at home and

Today in our advanced class we worked on our winter and spring fashion show. We came up with an idea for real hair styles for the "Thriller" spring show in memory of Michael Jackson. We will also have our fall hair show for the last week of October or the first week of November. We will be putting more infromation about this event on the blog at a later date.
In our Intro. class we came up with the idea of doing real hair for the winter show as opposed to using manikins. One of the most exciting thing we did in class was to express and design our fantasy gowns on paper. Now, tomorrow don't forget your items for "free style". I will be seeing what stlyes you all can create with your manikins...

As you begin your journey is Salon Services, you may not be sure of what area you might like to work. You are encouraged to keep your options open to all of the possible areas. Let your learning inform your choices. You will be exposed to glamour, beauty, skincare, nails, hair care, hair styling and others.
